I'm thinking about plasti-dipping my winter wheels in white. Those are shitty generic Chinese wheels btw.
Thing is, I'm not 20 anymore and I'm afraid it might look a bit boyracer-ish.
Picture is from last year and one of the wheel's coating have since started to peel off.
What do you think?

Black.

Dark gray.

Or anthracite. Hides brake dust and dirt.

No.

Black wheels are just the worst.

Why?
![]() 10/02/2014 at 12:53 |

Don't! Your car looks pretty sleeper-ish as it is, besides the red paint anyway.
I like it how it is.

Oh, that would look nice.

Ok.

I think that's a nice driveway, but could use an I-pattern or herringbone layout.

Yellow! :D

You've seen the rado gray wheels that are optional on FoST right? I'd try for that look.

They hide the shape of the wheel almost conpletely, especially in low light. Because of that it also makes the wheel well look bigger and the wheels look smaller.

Black wheels are the easiest way to ruin a car.

This is what I have in mind, but it may comes out very amateur-ish, considering my painting talents.

Yes! Sounds like a great idea. It's already pretty nice in its current light gray/silver(?) color but white would be a bit nicer, more unique, and not "boyracer-ish".
Also, despite being cheapo wheels, they're still awesome and work great with the Focus - they remind me of the Focus RS wheels but with shorter spokes.

Go for it. I don't think white wheels are too boyracerish. They all stance their shit now anyway

Eh, you have valid points, I like black wheels though. But those wheels are ugly, and white is a terrible color if these are truly "winter" wheels. They would end up brown and trashed.

With added McDonald's decals !

Plastidip white, sure. If it were an import, I'd have been tempted to say "and per your avatar, make WWII Rising Sun lines curved across the spokes".
I dunno, you could go the Zakk Wylde approach and do black rings or spiral on white. There's boy racer, and then there's just going purposely ridiculous.

Why not just paint them?
![]() 10/02/2014 at 13:06 |

Yep. Gunmetal grey often works though.

I've been told plastidip is easier.
I'm not very good at those things.

Worst case with Plasti-dip; If you don't like it, you can peel it off. A can is ~$8.00 or so. Just try one wheel first and see if you like it.

Personally, i like white wheel, and if no one else is paying for your car, you shouldn't worry about what your perception of their opinions are. Who cares if it looks boy racer. If you like it, do it!

Fair enough. I agree with you on the white though, would end up pretty tatty especially in plastidip not solid paint.

what about bronze?
![]() 10/02/2014 at 13:18 |

i wouldnt. I had a buddy who did that, and they get SO dirty So quickly.

I guess it is a little bit harder because you need to rough the surface up, but it's cheaper and it won't start peeling after a season if you get a nice strong enamel. Paint them once and be done or plasti-dip them again and again.

White.
Wrong focus, similar wheels, looks great in white.

Agreed. I as well, think gunmetal would look nice.

1. I like those wheels. What size, 16s? Suprised they fit over the brakes. They remind me of the EAP wheels:
2. Plastidip Anthracite is great to work with, especially with a few coats of Silver Metalizer on top. My current car has this setup:
3. Here's what my SVT looked like with white plastidip:
Keep in mind that white plastdip is a total pain to keep clean. It will never be as white as the day you put it on, but with some elbow grease you can get it close. And then have to do it again a few days later. And with all the spokes on those wheels, it's going to be even more fun. But damn it looks good when clean.
Best reference pic I could find:

16'
They fit well in the rear, barely in the front.
Had to move the balancing weights on the front wheels !

You should do it in teal

I'm 30-mumble mumble, and I love my white wheels! forget people's oppinions
AND! if you do plasti-dip them, you are just a high pressure hose away from not looking like a boy racer
I suspect white for winter might be a bad idea, especially with plasti-dip's rougher surface. Here are mine for example, after driving home in teh rain the other day, and these are painted, smooth and shiny, with much wax on them.
